For most of us summer has
arrived (although here in Calgary it seems to have been
ordered with a large side of rain!). Precipitation or not,
now is the time to get outside and enjoy everything
outdoors from camping, to gardening, to simply watching
the sunset.
Unfortunately
with
the sun and fresh air comes those small
annoying pests, that
while important in the great scheme
of things, go a long way to taking some of the fun out
of outdoor activities. Whether the pest is mosquitoes,
black flies, or just bugs in general, we
thought that we'd offer some suggestions to reducing your exposure
to these little pests.
First, wear
light coloured clothing, as well as clothing colours
that blend with your environment.
Mosquitoes hone in on
color contrast
and movement. During prime attack times
(dawn & dusk) wear
loose fitting long shirts and pants and head nets if needed.
Second, be sure
to remove potential mosquito breeding areas
(any
standing water) from around your yard thus keeping
populations low.
Finally, use a
DEET-free spray repellant to provide personal
protection. One of our best selling products
during the summer months, we're big fans of our
Bug Joose™ - a unique
blend of essential oils in a witch hazel base that bugs
really don't like. Safe for use on all members of
the family, (yes, even your faithful 4 legged friends -
just don't spray on their faces), remember to reapply
often to maintain
protection.
Enjoy your
summer!
