The lime tree is native to India; the Moors first introduced
it to Europe. Then, in the sixteenth century, Spanish explorers traveled across the Atlantic Ocean, bringing
the lime tree to North America. The main reason the lime was brought on the boats was to help prevent scurvy,
which most of us know is a disease brought on by a serious deficiency in vitamin C.
The lime tree is a member of the Rutaceae family, and the
essential oil from the lime has a sweet, tangy scent. It is used now medicinally to help enhance the nervous
system, and the oil also has antiseptic and astringent properties (it's great for treating pimples!).
Therapeutically, lime essential oil is refreshing and uplifting, and has
been reputed to aid with depression. In folklore, Lime Oil is known for its ability to cleanse, purify and
renew the spirit and the mind. It is also said to be effective in cleansing the aura.
We are thrilled to announce the re-branding of our Just for Jack line of products (see our Product Feature
Section below). One of the two brand new scent blends is a phenomenal Organic Mexican Lime + Organic Nigerian
Ginger blend. Aptly named "Shine", it enlivens the senses and will brighten any fella's day!

New Products and Pricing Increases... |
|
|
Whew! The newsletter this month is definitely a long one, as a lot has been happening around the soaperie.
There has been a flurry of new product development as well as changes to existing products that we're soooo
excited to share! Over the next few months, you'll see announcements about new products coming in, old ones
getting facelifts, and some saying goodbye!
This month it's "Welcome Back...Jack!". Ourjust for jack™ men's line of products
has undergone some serious revisions, and we're stoked to announce new branding, new
products, and new scents!
We have two brand new scents to announce,
"Rain" and "Shine". "Rain" is a synthetic
fragrance oil but we think that you'll agree
the scent's touch of ocean breeze and light
musk more than make up for it. "Shine" on
the other hand is a 100% Organic blend of
Lime + Ginger essential oils and is a
wonderfully clean and crisp eye-opener (and
my new fave). As with all our
decisions regarding synthetic ingredients,
this one was arrived at with much debate. We
decided to go with a synthetic fragrance oil
as one of the scents partly because of the
feedback we received from many of you; as
long as the product is over 99% natural,
those we talked to said 'bring it on'.
We are also pleased to introduce our new
just for jack ™ After Shave and Body
Lotion. Available in both scents this lotion
is a soothing alternative to our After Shave
Spritz and a welcome tool in the ongoing
battle against men's rough dry skin.
Also we have moved our "Achin' Body Muscle
Rub" from the just for jack™ line over
into the T R E K™ line of products to
make it more accessible. Knowing that many
of you ladies out there get sore muscles
just like the boys do, it was a good move
for the product. Now it's branded for use by
everyone touting sore muscles!
Next we have a little teaser for you about
our big announcement next month. This
product line has been under discussions and
development for many months and should be of
particular interest to our hairier 4 legged
customers … (no, not you Ray!), so stay
tuned!
Finally, some news about pricing. Because of
the economic downturn over the past year,
All Things Jill™ opted not to raise
any of our prices this past January so as
not to add to already difficult times for
you, our customers. However, all good things
must come to an end and so as of August 15,
our wholesale prices will be increasing, and
as of September 1, our retail prices will be
increasing. Don't fret though, of the 120+
products that we create for you, less than
half will have price changes!
The decision to raise our prices was arrived
at after many difficult discussions. All
Things Jill™ is fiercely committed to using
premium natural & organic ingredients in all
of our products, however the costs of these
wonderful ingredients are ever increasing.
We are continuously enhancing our products
with certified organic ingredients but we
must strike a balance between product
excellence & price sensitivity. You may not
realize it but more than 95% of the
essential oils & herbs we use, as well as a
select number of our carrier oils
are certified
organic. We have also just acquired a stock
of Certified Organic, Fair Trade Shea Butter
for use in our products, but more about that
next month.
What's great about all this is that it
results in a superior quality product, since
we use no vegetable or mineral oils, no
parabens, no propylene glycol, no colourants
or dyes, and no sulphates. Just as
important we use BPA- and phthalate-free
packaging, resulting in clean, pure,
wonderful products that pamper our bodies
and protect the earth.
Namaste,
Jill

That's right guys! 2 great new scents...one fantastic
new product...Jack's gonna be a hit!

After much
feedback from our customers and in-house chit-chats,
we decided it was time to give Jack a makeover.
The result? Two fabulous new scents we call
Rain (a sexy water/ocean fragrance oil) and
Shine (an Organic Mexican Lime + Nigerian Ginger
Essential Oil blend), chic, stylish labeling, a new
After Shave + Body Lotion, and a new Gift Pack.
So, the
only question that remains is, are you a Rain or a
Shine kinda guy?

Eating Local
While
"eating local" isn't a Jill's Pick per se, it's a big
focus of our lives this summer. Having eaten local corn,
beans, bison, blueberries, elk, raspberries, beef,
chicken, pork, & asparagus so far this summer, not only
are we happy to be supporting our local & area farmers &
buying direct from them, the food tastes AMAZING!
We're also happily munching on our own tomatoes,
strawberries, basil, rosemary, chives & spearmint (that
I've managed to not kill yet). When in season, buy
local. Buy direct from the farmer at a market near you,
& support independent restaurants that source their food
locally.

Shades of Green
Green Camping
Camping season is in full force, and in keeping with
past years, Tim, Jasper and I are going to try to get
out for at least a week in the woods (watch this space
to see if we actually make it!). As with everything
else, we try to be as green and earth friendly as
possible, and so it goes with camping. Tim's come up
with some great tips on how to “green” your camping and
vacationing, and we thought we'd pass them along!
-
Forget the RV and go tent or car camping instead.
RVs use large amounts of fuel and their carbon
footprint is enormous
-
Respect the land (pack out what you pack in; don’t
leave your garbage behind)
-
Consider buying used equipment at garage sales and
from classifieds. We purchased our perfectly
serviceable Coleman lantern at a church ($7!) garage
sale, and our Coleman gas stove off Kijiji ($25!!!)
-
Use biodegradable soaps and cleaners & consider
showering every other day; we are roughing it after
all, aren’t we? <wink>
-
Consider buying some of your food locally & remove
all packaging before you leave. This means less to
haul around with you, and most or all of your
recycling is done at home. Plus, you get exposure to
locally grown foods and products
-
Use rechargeable batteries when necessary and leave
as many of the devices that require batteries
behind, avoid “glamping” or glamour camping.
On the subject of stoves and lights, the convenience of
propane powered camp stoves and lanterns is obvious, but
those little green bottles of propane are not refillable
or reusable. If you already have one of these, consider
buying an adapter that allows you to run them off a
larger refillable propane bottle, or consider a liquid
fuel stove and lantern. These are far friendlier that
their propane siblings and actually work better and
hotter!
We hope that however you decide to enjoy your summer in
the outdoors you do so in as responsible a manner as
possible. Have a great time and stay safe!!! |
