(Manifera Indica)

Lanolin is an all-natural ingredient rich in fatty acids produced by sheep to protect their skin and shed water from their wool. It is retained in the sheep's wool and is extracted when the wool is pressed between rollers and processed for the textile industry.

Hey! What's up with the Packing Peanuts?

A customer recently contacted us, concerned about our use of packing peanuts in her order.  Being such an eco-conscious company, she wondered why we'd be using styrofoam packing peanuts when they're such an environmentally-unfriendly product. 

Let us be the first to say, we agreed with her about the use of peanuts as a packaging medium. The unfortunate truth is, we receive many shipments from our suppliers that are packaged with styrofoam peanuts, despite requests to use biodegradable versions like cornstarch. Part of our philosophy is to reuse shipping materials (including boxes, packing paper and, yes, peanuts) whenever possible, which is why they will sometimes make their way into your order.  The thought of these going into the landfills is very upsetting, however we take some comfort knowing that they are being reused as much as possible before they end up there.

That being said, in All Things Jill’s entire 9 years of operation we have never purchased a single styrofoam packing peanut nor do we ever intend to. We have also never placed one styrofoam peanut into a landfill ourselves, nor do we intend to.

If you find yourself with packing peanuts on hand and would like to ensure they are re-used, we would like to suggest a couple of options:

• Contact a local shipping company (ie: UPS, Purolator) to see if they can use them;

• Source a local artisan that ships fragile items (ie: glass, pottery) and needs the peanuts to protect their precious work

Finally, if you would like us to ship your future orders using bio-degradable materials only, we would be more than happy to. Just let us know when ordering and we will honour your wishes.
